The girl / La chica

These two poems appeared in THE ANEMONE SIDECAR poetry journal by Ravenna Press, Spring 2010.

The girl

The girl in the cafe / the girl at Painted Rock
The girl walking down the crowded sidewalk
The girl in the truck / the girl counting change
The girl locking her bedroom door at night
The girl on the Ice / the girl with girl tattoos
The girl reading Sylvia Plath / the girl driving a dirt bike
The girl playing guitar and singing Johnny Cash
The girl wearing pantyhose for the first time
The girl with other girls / the girl writing a letter
an instant message / a to do list / a screenplay
The girl carrying a rifle / The girl watching tv
The girl learning Spanish / the Spanish girl
The girl on the magazine page / the silent girl in class
The girl looking at herself in your mirror

I had time

Appeared in the print journal ELBOW PADS in October 2013. Buy the whole issue here.

I had time

I had    time
to
play more songs
pack my bag
            outside
            to walk
just breathing   the rain
      singing

a white dress
checkered tights
            next
crossed                        legs
            in
cool drops

inhale
her blues
swallow them

Song For Girl In Window

Originally published in the Huron River Review back in 2010:

Song for girl in window

One night young and poor
barely in college
walking by a sorority house
on the main busy street
happening to look up
at a window on the second floor
with the shade raised
just enough for a space
just enough to see the girl inside
dressing
her underwear black and shiny
long curly brown hair
and warm-looking skin

stopping and staring
though shamed
by the people in cars driving by
wondering if
she ever would have talked to me
what she was like
where she was going
what kind of dress she was going to put on
and for who

thinking about that girl
many times in the last fifteen years
when I have forgotten the names

of women I have kissed
